A Gem for Every Month

A Gem for Every Month

Back to blog

You may already be familiar with each month's special gem, but did you know that some months have more than one option? Let's take a dive into each month's gem and learn more about them!

  • January

Garnets rule the month of January with their beautiful colors. That's right! Garnets come in a wide variety of colors other than what we would consider the traditional red. These colors include yellow, purple, orange, white, green, and more shades between.

  • February

Purple is the color of the month! Traditionally, February is the month of Amethyst. This gem has a beautiful color, however, as it is such a soft gem, we'd recommend our Purple Storm Lab Sapphire which mimics the color but is much harder.

  • March

Traditionally, March is the month of Aquamarine. The blue of this gem can range from subtle to bold.

As it's a soft gem, we'd recommend our Aqua Blue Lab Sapphire which beautifully mimics the color but is much harder.

  • April

Diamonds, diamonds, diamonds! April is the month to showcase this stunning gem.

These gems can also be replaced with White Moissanite or White Lab Sapphire, which make a great substitute while not breaking the bank.

  • May

Fall in love with Emeralds for the month of May. These stunning gems are typically included with internal fractures, which makes them difficult to mine and cut. However, a stunning alternative would be Hydrothermal Lab Created Emeralds.

  • June

Alexandrite is June's adult mood gem. This stunning trichroic gem changes color in every light, looking brand new in every room!

Take Alexandrite for a walk and see it switch from blue-green to purple-red.

  • July

Love the color red? July is the month to celebrate the beauty that is Ruby.

Did you know that ruby belongs to the same family as sapphire?

Both are Corundum! Ruby is just the red version of sapphire.

  • August

Peridot is a gorgeous green-yellow color that embodies spring vibes. Being on the softer side, Peridot should be worn with care to prevent scratches and nicks.

  • September

Sapphires rule the month of September with their beautiful colors. That's right! Sapphires come in a wide variety of colors other than what we would consider the traditional blue. These colors include red, yellow, purple, orange, white, green, and more shades between.

  • October

Opal and Tourmaline are October's birthstones - truly colorful and remarkable gems!

While opals are too soft for everyday wear, Tourmaline makes a fantastic gem for jewelry. The color choices are also vast consisting of pink, blue, green, and so much more.

  • November

Topaz and Citrine are November's birthstones! While Citrine has a beautiful golden yellow color, it is quite soft for everyday wear. Topaz on the other hand, makes a stunning blue centerpiece for any jewelry.

  • December

December is the month for Zircon, Turquoise, and Tanzanite.

Out of these three, Zircon makes the best choice for a ring meant to be worn daily.

Zircon also has an interesting doubling effect, making the gem appear fuzzy inside.
