These golden yellow Grossular Garnets are stunning, sparkling in bright light and glowing in low light. They would make a lovely pair of earrings, or purchased individually, a vivid ring or pendant. No matter where these gems call home, they are sure to be eye-catching.
I cut both of them into a design I wrote called 'Étoile,' the french word for star-a perfect name for the sparkle and glow this cut makes.
These Garnets are not treated and their colors are very close. The camera picks up the small difference between them, but when viewed in hand, look identical, as seen in the pictures.
Garnet is the name given to a group of mineral that can come in a wide variety of colors including yellow, green, white and shades of orange to red. Popular varieties are Rhodolite, Grossular, Imperial, and Spessartine The Garnet has a high refractive index, the same, or higher, than Sapphire. They are quite durable stones ranging on the Mohs Hardness Scale from 6.5 to 7.5, depending on the type of Garnet. They have also been given the privilege of being January's birthstone, though, these are more often portrayed as the blood red Pyrope.
