This Sapphire is absolutely stunning with a heart of pink and violet edge. Under incandescent lighting, the violet blends beautifully, leaving the stone a soft pink color. This oval would make an amazing engagement ring or accented pendant for those who are looking for an all-natural pink Sapphire.
I cut this Sapphire in a design called "Omni Oval," my favorite oval design written by Robert Strickland.
There is an inclusion near the girdle on one tip, not noticeable at a regular viewing distance. The fine rutile needles are reflected among the facets making it appear there are more than there are.
Sapphire has been popular throughout history, and that trend doesn't seem to be changing. Sapphire is a mineral called corundum, and it doesn't only come in the well-known royal blue. Corundum comes in an array of colours and shades, including white. The popular Ruby also belongs to this family as a red corundum. Sapphires and Rubies have a hardness of 9, making it the hardest coloured stone, and is well suited for daily wear. Sapphire also happens to be the traditional birthstone for those born in September.
