This Montana Sapphire is truly spectacular. It's gorgeous color is difficult to describe, nearly a shade reminiscent of the Pacific Ocean. Not only that, this Sapphire is also dichroic, meaning it is a different color when viewed from the side. And in this case it's a beautiful green. The combined photo of rough stones are actually the same stone viewed from different sides.
I cut this Sapphire in a design called "Tessellation 29", written by Arya Akhavan.
This gem is eye clean and was heated in Montana. This is the only treatment to this American-made beauty.
Sapphire has been popular throughout history, and that trend doesn't seem to be changing. Sapphire is a mineral called corundum, and it doesn't only come in the well-known royal blue. Corundum comes in an array of colours and shades, including white. The popular Ruby also belongs to this family as a red corundum. Sapphires and Rubies have a hardness of 9, making it the hardest coloured stone, and is well suited for daily wear. Sapphire also happens to be the traditional birthstone for those born in September.
